GRACE ANDREWS

Hi im Grace, I’m 20 years old and I’m a teaching assistant from Cardiff.

My passion with the ocean started when I was a baby, I would be playing in the rock pools and refusing to come out. Growing up I was always at the beach and I could see the devastation of more and more litter ending up on the coast. This sparked something in me. During Covid-19 pandemic, when our time outdoors was limited and we had to stay local to where we lived, my family noticed the amount of litter that was ruining our local beauty spots. We decided to use our daily walk to litterpick to clean up our local environment. I believe that it has helped shape who I am today which is why I created Clean Coast Cymru which aims to pick up the waste and protect the waves. My favourite part of this is getting pageant girls involved and encouraging them to get out of our heels and put on our wellies and go for a litterpick.

My role as a teaching assistant helps me to show the children all about our planet that we live on. I also help co run “Welly Wednesdays” where we get the children outside in all weathers, exploring and appreciating our environment. We have created insects out of sticks and leaves, Photo frames out of sticks and a nature hunt.

As well as being a teaching assistant I’m also a Girlguiding unit helper. This is a great volunteer role where I’m able to work with girls aged 10+. We help the girls be able to talk about the things that are important to them. In the future I would love to train to become a Girlguiding Leader.

My aim is to educate others on the importance of keeping the planet clean and to encourage many more Eco Warriors. If I can encourage one person to help our Earth that’s one step in the right direction.
